Last year I wrote a post about buying products based on the pictures and not the labels. In that article I pointed out several instances where the pictures on the front of product did not jive with the labels. It happens more often than we are aware. The post is called “Are You Buying the Pictures on the Labels?” It is a good read.
Recently it was brought to my attention that this deception was still going on in the marketplace. One of the most obvious deceptions is Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal from General Mills. The trick here is there are NO blueberries or pomegranates in this “Blueberry Pomegranate” cereal. Fake blueberries! That is like having a chocolate chip cookie with no chocolate. What General Mills does here is use “natural flavorings” to give the taste of blueberries and pomegranates. The bits that sort of look like fruit is actually “fruit flavored clusters” made from various sweeteners, natural & artificial flavors and artificial colors such as Red 40 and Blue 2. No real fruit here.
So wise up friends and read the labels. Yeah, I know the print is small, so carry a magnifying glass with you if you have to, but read the label. Or you could get your Real Blueberries from Shaklee’s Blueberry Almond Crisp Meal-In-A-Bar! Real Blueberries!! Real Almonds! Delicious.
